EBM Ecotec AG: restructuring of assembly business
EBM is adapting its activities in the assembly of photovoltaic systems and heat pumps to current market conditions. Due to the increasingly adverse conditions, the company will have completed its withdrawal from this area by the end of 2014.
Over recent months EBM has pushed ahead with its strategic and structural realignment and stepped up its efficiency enhancement efforts. In particular, the company has successfully put into effect its focus on its core business in the areas of grid, energy, heat, renewable energies and energy efficiency. As planned, the targeted CHF 20 million improvement in operating profit will be achieved in full by as early as next year.
It became clear during the realignment that the photovoltaic systems and heat pumps assembly business is continuing to undergo rapid change, with market conditions in the large-scale photovoltaic systems segment proving particularly challenging. In addition to falling feed-in tariffs, there is also the issue of overcapacity, which is weighing on prices. As a result, EBM Ecotec AG will discontinue its remaining assembly business, and EBM will fully withdraw from the photovoltaic systems and heat pumps assembly business by the end of 2014. Most of the affected employees have already managed to find new positions within EBM, but three employees are still looking for new employment opportunities. The current restructuring has had no impact on our existing customer relationships and our contractual services and obligations remain unchanged.
