Green electricity for an intact environment and a worry-free future
Primeo Grün is green electricity and stands for holistic environmental awareness. Primeo Grün is certified with the strictest seal of approval for green electricity with four points, «naturemade star». This guarantees particularly environmentally friendly and sustainable production.
What is green electricity?
Green electricity is renewable energy – i.e. hydroelectric, wind and solar energy, energy from biomass and geothermal energy – which has been awarded the four-point ‘naturemade star’ seal of approval. In addition to being renewable, the production process also meets comprehensive ecological requirements. This means that consideration is given to nature, i.e. to the plants and animals living in the surrounding area. This is particularly important because the increasing use of renewable sources (especially hydropower) has an impact on living conditions and thus on the diversity of living organisms. The producers and suppliers of these high-quality electricity products are monitored and audited to ensure that high quality standards are maintained.

The “naturemade” quality label
“naturemade” is the Swiss quality label for energy and is awarded by the Association for Environmentally Sound Energy (VUE) and supported by WWF, Pro Natura and the Consumer Forum. The "naturemade" quality label builds trust. It guarantees the quality of energy production systems and credible energy products, making the right choice easier.
How does the "naturemade" fund work?
Anyone who orders electricity products with the "naturemade" quality label pays into a fund for ecological improvement measures. A fund levy is collected on all "naturemade" and "star" certified electricity and electricity of this quality that end-customers receive under "naturemade" delivery licences (at all possible quality levels). The fund levy is 0.7 centimes/kWh for every kilowatt hour of "naturemade" and "star" electricity sold to end-customers.
Funding from the electricity sold to end-customers from "naturemade star" certified new renewable energies (photovoltaics, wind, biomass, drinking water power plants) can be used in full for greening/promoting biodiversity as well as for expanding ecological energy production/energy efficiency.
This commitment directly benefits nature and the environment.
These funds are used regularly for projects that serve the fund’s purpose. The resources from the fund may not be used to finance any measures connected to the certification criteria.
Frequently asked questions about our electricity products
All our customers automatically receive the Primeo Standard product. If you have recently moved into the Primeo Energie network area or have never changed your product, you will be supplied with the Primeo Standard product. Your current electricity product is also listed in the customer portal my.primeo-energie.ch and on your electricity bill. Of course, it is possible to switch to Primeo Grün.

Primeo Standard is renewable electricity without additional certification.
Primeo Grün is «naturemade star» certified.
The “naturemade” quality label is awarded by the Association for Environmentally Sound Energy. The WWF, Pro Natura and the Swiss Consumer Forum associations guarantee independence in quality label awarding.
All customers in Switzerland pay a grid surcharge (federal levy to promote renewable energies and for ecological refurbishment of hydropower) of currently 2.3 centimes per kilowatt hour with their electricity bill. Customers thus contribute to supporting electricity production from renewable energies.
In return, the quality (proof of origin) of this subsidised production is passed on to customers, as the energy supplier does not have to obtain certificates of origin for the entire amount of electricity, but only for the amount minus the subsidised electricity.
In March of the following year, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy provides information about the exact composition of supported electricity. Primeo Energie shows the proportion of supported electricity for each electricity product in the electricity declaration. Information about the composition of electricity products is provided without the supported electricity, as the exact percentages are not publicly disclosed until the following year.

All other times, as well as all day on 1 January, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, 1 August and 25 December, provided that network conditions and the available control equipment permit.
Primeo Energie's sponsorship and advertising as a whole have no influence on the electricity prices of end customers in the basic supply and therefore the monopoly area in the grid business segment. In accordance with the requirements of the legislator (regulator), the costs of market development (advertising, sponsorship) may not be charged to the grid and therefore not to customers in the basic supply. Accordingly, the costs for sponsoring and advertising are borne by EBM (Genossenschaft Elektra Birseck) and by the companies that provide their products and services on the free market and thus in a competitive environment.
