New 145-kV cable line between the Lachmatt and Schweizerhalle substations
Background
The existing ‘Lachmatt–Schweizerhalle’ high-voltage line is an oil-filled cable dating from 1986. The cable no longer meets current requirements and has reached the end of its service life.
To ensure the continued security of supply in the region, Primeo Energie is replacing the line between the Lachmatt and Schweizerhalle substations with a new, approximately 3,300-metre-long underground cable. As a first step, two empty conduits will be laid for this purpose.
Timeline and construction phases
The necessary civil engineering works will take place along Baslerstrasse, Kästeliweg, Salinenwegli, Düngerstrasse and Rheinfelderstrasse.
Depending on local conditions, the empty conduits will be laid either in open trenches or using trenchless construction methods. The methods used will be horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and pipe jacking.

Unfortunately, traffic disruptions and restrictions cannot be completely avoided during the construction work. We are doing everything we can to minimise the disruption and thank you for your understanding.
Latest news - mid-August 2026 to January 2027
Construction of the cycle path along Muttenzerstrasse, running parallel to the BLT, towards Baslerstrasse/Kästeliweg.
During this construction phase, the cantonal cycle route will be closed and diverted along this section. We ask road users to follow the signposted diversion.
