Primeo Energie presents annual results to delegates

At the 127th Ordinary Delegates' Assembly held on April 30, 2025, Primeo Energie presented its 2024 financial results to the cooperative’s representatives. Andreas Büttiker was confirmed as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

During the assembly on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Primeo Energie reviewed a financial year shaped by new regulatory requirements, high costs for balancing energy, and a general decline in electricity prices. As a result, the company posted revenue of CHF 2.2 billion, down from CHF 2.5 billion the previous year.

Operating profit (EBIT) fell to CHF 124 million, compared to CHF 160 million in the previous year. Net profit, which serves as the cooperative-based group’s foundation for reinvestment, rose to CHF 91 million (previous year: CHF 85 million). A total of CHF 143 million was invested in energy infrastructure—exceeding the annual profit.

The consolidated balance sheet total reached CHF 3 billion, slightly up from CHF 2.9 billion. The equity ratio improved to 56%, compared to 53% the year before. This underlines Primeo Energie’s solid financial position despite ongoing challenges in Switzerland.

The group’s structure and geographical diversification once again proved beneficial in 2024. Strong performance in France offset losses in the Swiss electricity business. Overall, 80% of profits stemmed from international operations, while 70% of those profits were reinvested in the cantons of Basel-Landschaft and Solothurn. In total, more than CHF 143 million was dedicated to expanding energy infrastructure. The goal is to adapt and expand power and heating networks to meet the demands of the energy transition and decarbonisation.

Primeo Energie remains on course in its core strategic focus areas: decarbonisation, decentralisation, and digitalisation. For example, the new heating plant for the Birstal district heating network was commissioned, and construction began on a new wood-fired heating plant in Aesch. The customer portal was expanded, and additional processes were digitised. Newly introduced self-service reports in the portal now offer all relevant CO₂ data. The "Heat and Power of the Future" website was further developed, and a digital twin now maps electrical installations and transformer stations to support maintenance and project planning.

In Sedrun (GR) and Spiringen (UR), Primeo Energie is involved in two of Switzerland’s first alpine solar projects. The energy-related services business also continued to grow. The number of self-consumption communities increased, and the balancing energy pool now includes more than 261 flexible production units.

All 211 voting delegates unanimously approved the 2024 Annual and Sustainability Reports and adopted the proposed appropriation of retained earnings. They also granted discharge to the responsible corporate bodies for the 2024 fiscal year. During the re-elections, Andreas Büttiker was confirmed for another term as Chairman of the Board of Directors through 2028. Ernst & Young AG was reappointed as external auditor for the 2025 financial year.
