Münchenstein, 28 August 2026 – Electricity prices are falling for the third year running. In 2027, Primeo Energie’s basic service customers will pay on average around 2 per cent less than in the current year. The lease of the Aare Versorgungs AG (AVAG) grid area to Primeo Energie is making a significant contribution to reducing the cost of the future joint tariffs. Additional savings opportunities arise from the optional tariffs, which allow customers to optimise their electricity costs on an individual basis. Furthermore, the dynamic ‘Primeo NetzDynamisch’ tariff is being expanded, opening up further potential for savings. The Energy Fund was increased this year.

As of 1 January 2027, electricity prices for the basic supply will fall by an average of around 2 per cent compared with 2026. This marks the third consecutive price reduction. For households with an annual consumption of 4,500 kWh, this represents a saving of around 30 francs per year. Businesses with an annual consumption of 30,000 kWh can expect a reduction of around 200 francs. The reduction varies for individual customers depending on their product and consumption profile. Furthermore, customers can optimise their electricity costs using the enhanced optional tariffs. Those who manage their consumption carefully can make additional savings.

Energy is becoming cheaper, whilst grid costs are developing differently
The electricity price for customers on the basic supply tariff is essentially made up of the costs for energy, grid usage, metering and statutory levies. For the year 2027, the factors leading to savings will predominate.

The overall lower costs for energy procurement are having a tariff-reducing effect. At the same time, procurement spread over several years has a stabilising effect. Primeo Energie meets demand with electricity from its own generation, long-term supply contracts and market purchases. This significantly reduces dependence on short-term market price fluctuations, such as those arising in connection with the recent conflict in the Middle East.

The picture is more nuanced when it comes to grid usage. Grid costs are influenced by both rising and falling factors and have the effect of increasing individual grid usage tariffs. The Swissgrid component for system services is reduced from 0.27 Rp./kWh to 0.19 Rp./kWh. Metering costs remain unchanged compared with the previous year. Federal levies fall slightly overall (electricity reserve, solidarity-based costs). The grid surcharge remains unchanged at 2.30 Rp./kWh.

Primeo Energie will inform its customers in the Basel and Olten regions personally and in writing about the tariff adjustments over the course of the next three months, in conjunction with the next billing cycle. Expansion of the network area: cost optimisation and stable prices
With effect from 1 January 2027, AVAG will lease its electricity network in the Olten region to Primeo Energie. Primeo Netz AG will thus assume responsibility as the network operator. As part of the lease agreement, electricity tariffs in the two network areas will be harmonised.

The lease builds on the long-standing successful collaboration between the two companies. The lease is driven by increasing demands on the energy sector, such as the integration of solar power into the grid, the need for flexibility and new regulatory requirements. As a result, the operation of electricity grids is becoming increasingly complex and costly. The harmonisation will simplify both existing structures and enable synergies to be realised. Customers in both network areas will benefit from the resulting cost optimisations. Costs can be reduced, thereby keeping tariffs as stable as possible.

Expanded optional tariff ‘Primeo Dynamisch’
With effect from 1 January 2027, Primeo Energie will supplement the current optional tariff ‘Primeo NetzDynamisch’ for the ‘Basis’ customer group by adding a dynamic energy component alongside the existing grid component. The expanded tariff will be offered in future under the name ‘Primeo Dynamisch’. Customers who actively manage their electricity consumption and shift it to cheaper times of day can thus further reduce their electricity costs. Energy prices are based on the spot market.

The tariff is particularly suitable for households with significant, time-shiftable electricity consumption, such as for electric cars, heat pumps or battery storage systems. A prerequisite is having their own energy management system that automatically controls electricity consumption.

With ‘Primeo Dynamic’, for example, a household that consumes 4,500 kilowatt-hours annually and requires an additional 3,000 kilowatt-hours for charging an electric car can reduce its electricity costs by charging the vehicle at cheaper times. If the charging process is shifted from the evening to the afternoon in summer and to the night or early morning in winter, this results in a noticeable saving of up to 25 per cent – or up to 500 Swiss francs per year – compared with the standard tariff. The actual saving depends in particular on the mileage and thus on the electricity consumption of the electric car.

Energy fund increased to 4 million Swiss francs
Primeo Energie has increased the energy fund for 2026 to 4 million Swiss francs. In doing so, the company is offering additional financial support to members of the co-operative and to customers, whilst promoting investment in an efficient, renewable and secure energy supply. Private individuals, local authorities, public institutions and businesses within the electricity and heating network areas are eligible to apply. Funding is available, for example, for measures to reduce energy consumption, increase self-consumption or expand renewable energy production.
