Decentralised energy makes many things possible – but some things more complex.
Today, companies generate energy at various locations, store it and use it across multiple buildings and facilities. With every additional facility, consumption point and party involved, the interplay becomes more complex. Production, consumption, metering and billing must be coordinated so that energy can be used efficiently and cost-effectively.
Generation and consumption do not always match up.
Photovoltaic systems mainly generate electricity during the day, depending on the weather. Energy demand, however, is linked to operations. Without a coordinated control system, surplus electricity is fed into the grid, whilst at other times energy has to be drawn from the same grid.
It is difficult to get a clear picture of energy flows.
