Alterszentrum am Bachgraben

Self-sufficient energy provider with photovoltaics and PCA

As part of a comprehensive renovation, the Am Bachgraben retirement centre is also redesigning its energy supply, with a clear focus on sustainability: Through a private consumption alliance (PCA) and five photovoltaic systems, the foundation makes an important contribution to the 2050 Energy Strategy, in cooperation with Primeo Energie.

Reimagining a good idea

The Am Bachgraben retirement centre had planned to have its own photovoltaic system for a long time. Initially, however, the project was not economically feasible. It therefore became quickly interested when in 2018 Primeo Energie presented the foundation with a new solution to implement the project cost-effectively and without compromising supply reliability.

We want to contribute to sustainable energy use and believe in a future-oriented and financially viable energy supply. For this reason, we have opted for a private consumption alliance with Primeo Energie.

Ecological and economical at the same time

In future, up to 260,000 kWh of electricity will be produced on a photovoltaic surface of over 1,700 m2 at the Am Bachgraben retirement centre, to be used either by the facilities themselves or fed into the grid.

The heat for the Am Bachgraben retirement centre also comes from an efficient shared system that uses a woodchip-fired source and is based on a project initiated also by Primeo Energie.

Primeo Energie is pursuing the right strategy for us with well planned projects and lean processes. We're a good fit. Ultimately, we want to make a contribution that is both sensible and cost-effective.

A broad partnership

Besides managing the PCA, Primeo Energie will in future also be responsible for billing all ancillary charges for the three residential buildings in the centre – including recording, automated reading, and billing of all media used for the public service as well as individually. This will ease the burden on the centre’s administrators, who will also benefit from more transparency.

We expect our partner to inform us proactively of innovations, improvements and potential savings. We have had this commitment from Primeo Energie for many years, which is why we are now also working with them in billing.
