More and more customers are using solar panels, electric vehicles, heat pumps and other electrical appliances. This is changing the way electricity is generated and consumed – and, as a result, the demands placed on our electricity grid.
At the same time, this opens up a new opportunity to use electricity more flexibly and intelligently, and to shift consumption when it makes sense to do so.
Why flexible tariffs?
Electricity prices and grid load fluctuate throughout the day.
Flexible tariffs allow you to capitalise on these variations. By shifting the charging of your electric car, the operation of your heat pump or the use of your home battery to cheaper times, you can save money whilst also reducing the strain on the electricity grid.
An energy management system handles this rescheduling automatically. With grid-oriented tariffs, the prices set the day before are based on the expected grid load. From 2027, Primeo Dynamic will also take hourly energy market prices into account.
This is how flexibility pays off – without any extra effort.
Where is the flexibility?
Many applications can do more than just consume electricity.
Electric cars, heat pumps, battery storage systems and other electrical applications can shift the timing of their electricity consumption. Depending on the application, this is done manually, via a timer or – with the help of an energy management system – automatically.
The principle is simple: not less electricity, but electricity at the right time.
Electric car
Charge when tariffs are cheaper or the grid is less congested.
Heat pump
Generate heat during suitable time slots.
Battery
Store electricity at suitable times and use it later.
Other applications
Shift electricity consumption wherever possible and sensible.
What is the study’s key finding?
Flexibility does not work through motivation alone.
Our customer survey shows that technical capabilities and willingness are important prerequisites. For flexibility to be effectively utilised in everyday life, its application must be simple, predictable and, as far as possible, automated.
- Simple – No unnecessary extra effort.
- Predictable – Clarity on when and how flexibility can be utilised.
- Automated – Where possible, intelligent control handles the rescheduling.
What do customers want?
We wrote to 50,000 customers. We received 2,196 valid responses.
The results show: The technical potential is there. The key is to turn this into a solution that works in everyday life.
What does this mean for you?
Residential customers
Do you have an electric car, a heat pump, a battery or other electrical appliances? If so, flexibility might be of interest to you.
Primeo Energie offers a range of options – from time-variable tariffs to solutions that allow you to shift your consumption in a targeted manner.
Business customers
Businesses also have electricity consumption that can, in some cases, be shifted or controlled – for example, in relation to charging infrastructure, heating/cooling, storage systems or specific processes.
The future of energy is becoming more flexible.
We want to shape this development together with our customers – with tariffs and solutions that are easy to understand and enable flexibility in everyday life.
