EBM acquires energy purchasing and energy logistics of Swisspower Energy AG
EBM (Genossenschaft Elektra Birseck), headquartered in Münchenstein, canton of Basel-Landschaft, is acquiring the electricity purchasing and energy logistics service divisions of Swisspower Energy AG. Swisspower Energy is an energy services company for energy utilities in Switzerland. This takeover fits in perfectly with EBM’s strategic thrust, enabling it to expand its range of products and services in the electricity market and take a further important step towards strategic growth.
Zurich/Münchenstein. Swisspower Energy is an energy industry services company focusing on energy purchasing, energy logistics and other energy-associated services for energy utilities and multi-site companies. On the other side, EBM has been firmly established for years in professional and cost-effective purchase of electricity for energy utilities and large clients. With its acquisition of Swisspower Energy’s electricity purchasing and energy logistics divisions, EBM is sharply increasing and strengthening its market position in distribution in Switzerland, and particularly in eastern Switzerland. In addition, it can optimise internal structures, procedures and systems. These activities of Swisspower Energy will be integrated into EBM, and the employees of these Swisspower Energy service divisions will be taken over. With the exception of distribution and customer service, their new place of work will be Münchenstein. The Multi Energy Billing service division is not affected by the sale, and stays with Swisspower Energy AG.
“This takeover fits in perfectly with EBM’s strategic thrust, and I am very happy to see it. Its goal is to generate growth as planned in the core business, and to strengthen our position in electricity purchasing and energy logistics nationally, in a market which is characterised by significant upheavals and intensive competition,” according to Conrad Ammann, EBM’s CEO.
Bundling competences ensures clients optimal energy purchasing in close contact with the market. They benefit from the years of expert experience, high level of safety and reliability, and extensive innovation. The clients also benefit from market-driven price models and individual purchasing strategies, from fixed prices through structured electricity purchasing to commodities. Flexible solutions are available in energy logistics, such as efficient meter-to-cash processes.
This sale is a further step by the Swisspower group of companies towards firming up their repositioning. Swisspower’s activities will focus in future on electricity generation from renewable energies, cooperation services for the Swisspower municipal utilities, and representing the interests of multi-purpose companies and the municipal utility sector.
With the electricity purchase and energy logistics business model, EBM is targeting a market characterised by significant upheavals and intensive competition. The combined product range will give small and medium-sized energy utilities in particular new and attractive options for decision-making.
